# Alt Video > Alt Video is a video store you walk around in, stocked with your own movies, shows and games. It is in development for Steam, for desktop and VR. ## Facts - Name: Alt Video - What it is: a playable personal video store. You browse, pick up and arrange cases for your own movies, shows and games, ask a clerk for suggestions, and choose something to watch or play. - Status: in development. Not released. No release date announced. No demo and no Early Access are planned. - Platform at launch: Steam, on Windows, with keyboard and mouse or a controller, and PC VR through SteamVR. A VR headset is optional. - Not promised: macOS, Linux, standalone VR headsets, phones, TV boxes. - Price: not announced. One purchase. No subscription, no advertising, no paid shelf capacity, no separate VR unlock. - Account: none of its own. It uses the Steam identity already running. - Content: you bring your own. No commercial films or games are included. A small starter shelf of original, invented titles comes with the store. - Publisher: Strike Two (https://striketwo.games) - No AI-generated images or video are used in the game or on this site. - Everything described on this site is planned and may change before release. ## What it is not - Not a media server. It reads the one you already run. - Not a streaming service. It hosts and relays no films. - Not a replacement for Steam. It launches the same games. - Not a rental business. Nothing is rented and nothing is late. - Not affiliated with any video rental company, or with Steam, Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, Letterboxd or Backloggd. ## What you do in it - Pick up a case. The front, spine and back are readable. The back says where the title can be watched or played. - Ask the clerk. Three cases come back: a safe bet, something adjacent, and a wildcard. - Arrange shelves and name the store. The sign, membership card, receipt and bag change with the name. - Rewind Night: set a release-date cutoff, such as a Saturday in 2001, and browse only what your collection held by then. - Friday Night Table: invite up to three other owners to visit, put cases on a table and agree on a shortlist. It does not broadcast films to visitors. - Check out, or skip it and start watching or playing from the case. ## Ways to fill the store ### [Steam](https://altvideo.net/steam) Turn your Steam library into a game store. No. ALT VIDEO uses your Steam account as your membership card. - My Steam profile is private. Can I still use ALT VIDEO? Yes. You can add the games installed on your computer, or import a list. - Does ALT VIDEO replace my Steam library? Import again to update. - A watchlist does not include the movie. The case tells you where you can watch it, when that is known. - Does ALT VIDEO sync with my Letterboxd account? No. You import your Letterboxd export file. To update your store, import again. - Does importing give me the movies? No. ALT VIDEO puts your list on the shelves. The case tells you where a movie can be watched, when that is known. ### [Backloggd](https://altvideo.net/backloggd) Turn your Backloggd into a game store. Add your Backloggd ratings and logs to the games in your own video store. - Your ratings - Your play statuses and logs - Your lists, if they are in your file - Your ratings and logs on the games already on your shelves - Requires a CSV or JSON file that you supply. There is no official Backloggd connection. - Some account information may not be included. - For example: “286 titles are ready. 4 need a title choice.” You can start browsing the 286 right away. - A logged game may not be playable. The case tells you which games you can play. - Is there a Connect button for Backloggd? No. Backloggd does not offer an official connection, so you import a file. - What if my file is not recognized? ALT VIDEO tells you what it was able to read, keeps those titles, and offers a standard CSV format you can use. ### [Discs and cartridges](https://altvideo.net/physical-media) Build a virtual store for your DVD, Blu-ray and game collection.
